A few snaps from the seaside....

A beautiful sunny (almost warm!) day yesterday.

Perfect for a seaside wander to blow away the cobwebs and clear the head.

Flowery makes

Its been a busy old week, but have managed to acquire a little bit of time to have a play with some of the fabric flower tutorials I found last week. Its been quite a success and im very happy with what i've come up with.

Firstly the layered, folded fabric flower from the House of Smiths tutorial. Really like how this one looks. It came out at 7cm in size, so i'd probably try and make it a bit smaller next time. I've attached a brooch back to this one and think it'll look fab on a cushion.

Below is my first attempt at a yoyo flower.

Love the simplicity of this one, so much so that I made another 2 and turned them in hairslides. See here for the how to.

My next trial was the very sweet felt flowers form The Fickle Pickle tutorial.

Again I love the simplicity of these and just how professional they look. I think several of these, in different sizes, bunched together would look great.

I decided to try adding in a layer of raw edged fabric, just to add a bit of pattern. This is what I came up with.....

What do you think? Im not sure I like them as much, but it does add a bit of rustic-ness to the feel.

Finally I tried out the box fold tutorial from iCandy handmade.

Really love these....

I made the red one first, then for the blue one I added in some ribbon while sewing the petals in place, neatening up the edges at the end. I think it works really well.

I've definitely been inspired and have got some new ideas to bring into my work.
Would love to know what you think...

Happy weekending all....x

Pretty Fabric Flower Tutorials

True to my word, I have been researching online to find some neat and funky tutorials on making fabric flowers.

To be fair, I spent a good chunk of yesterday doing this. But there is something hugely satisfying about having an unexpected day at home, where you feel you can while away an hour or so, reading blogs and websites, without worrying that you should really be doing something else.

So heres what i've found.....

Firstly these very sweet Box Fold Felt Flowers found on iCandy handmades blog.

Then this gorgeous flower tutorial from The House of Smiths.

I love the simplicity of this one found on Gone to Earths page.

These Pop Garden Scrap Fabric flowers add a real splash of colour, from Hello My Name is Heather.

These are very sweet little posies from The Fickle Pickle.

And finally these cute layered blooms from Blue Cricket Design.

So, this weeks challenge is to learn to make something new, and give a few of these a try.

If you fancy giving any of them a go, just click on the link above each photo for the step by step guide.

Happy making!

A snap from yesterday.....

....just a quick one to share the beautiful snowy scene from the window yesterday.

It led to a 'snow day'......or should I say, an unexpected day to spend crafting, happily surrounded by piles of fabric, buttons strewn across the desk, and mugs of hot chocolate on the go!

Perfect!

Corsage no.2

Just a very brief post this evening.

I managed to finish off the second of the vintage fabric inspired corsages last night, and very happy with this one too.

Keep your eyes peeled as both will be available soon in my Etsy and Folksy shops.

Heres a quick peek......

First Make of the Year

Ok, so we're a few weeks into January, and kind of back to normal after the madness of the Christmas  break.

I have to admit to not having been quite as productive as I had hoped, but life does sort of get in the way at times. However with a growing love of the beautiful fabrics I brought recently I was eager to have a play with them as soon as possible.

I put them to good use and made this very vintage inspired corsage, taking a different fabric for each of the petals, and finishing it off with one of the super shiny buttons I also purchased.

Im really pleased with it.

I think im going to make a second one, similar but slightly different, over the coming week, but im also on the look out for tutorials on making fabric flowers to get a few new design ideas. If you have any recommendations please let me know.

Happy weekends all!
